Wow, Mom!

MOM!! A word I listen to 1,000 times per day and I remember calling out from the other side of our home to my mom... MOM!

If you were to read "MOM" upside down it would be "WOW" I bet you already knew that. Do you know why? I often ask myself since becoming a mom 5 years and 1 month {to be exact} ago. I guess we could go on and on about why some people consider being a "MOM" the highlight of their life.

Based on my experience I can honestly say, from the moment we are trying to conceive we are committed to a selfless life and being the best mom we can be. When we become pregnant, we are even more committed to do so. We avoid eating certain foods, drinking alcohol, exercise regularly then it happens!  -first wow of mom- we give birth and the sleepless nights begin as do the midnight feedings and diaper changing.

We give it all without looking back to our past life. We choose to be home or combine a work life with our parenting duties. It is not that we feel like we miss our old lifestyle, but more like we enjoy in a weird twisted way our "new life" -taking care of our baby. We forget we have needs too and our life revolves around this little person that until adulthood will need our every approval and guidance.

We choose Classical music over Pop music! and yes we even sometimes change our wardrobe for clothes more comfortable. Platforms for sneakers. In the end we become a parent 24 hours a day, 365 days a year sometimes 366 days. We are open for business without paid holidays, sick-days and yes we enjoy it, even if we sometimes complain about it.

But in all honesty don't get me wrong we are getting paid without currency in a priceless way that compares to no other. There is a quote from Mildred B. Vermont that says "Being a full-time mother is one of the highest salaried jobs ...since the payment is pure love!" It is so true, just looking at our children we feel emotions that can't be described.

We have the honor of witnessing first steps, first words... a new book to write in every single page. We teach love, manners, math and even play.

If you were to look up in the dictionary the term for mother you would find the following definition: a term of address for a female parent or a woman having or regarded as having the status, function, or authority of a female parent.

Mom is the informal term and the one we use the most, at least in Southern California   ;-)

So I ask you now how do you feel about your MOM?
